Prevention and promotion are essential for the mental health of children and youth, according to the proposal of the European WHO-Conference for Mental Health in Helsinki in 2005, wich challenged countries to act. The school project “Crazy? So What?”, developed by Irrsinnig Menschlich and tested and positively evaluated, supports this challenge. |

The unique aspect of “Crazy? So what!” is the alliance of efforts to prevent and tear down stigmas. This combination gives Irrsinnig Menschlich a new realm of health education. The project begins in the 9th grade with sensitising youth to mental health, contributes to prevention, and advertises for openness, understanding, and tolerance in interpersonal relationships. At the same time the project encourages people with mental health problems to self-consciously participate in society. The core of the school project is the direct contact between pupils and those who have experienced mental illness. The project last a least one school day and is led by a team consisting of a moderator an several who have gone through mental illness. |
